Slowing demand continues to weigh on Gulf market

Slowing demand continues to weigh on Gulf market

A car of lard traded late yesterday, up a penny to 41 cts/lb Chicago and even with the last traded value for choice white grease (CWG) into the Chicago market. CWG was steady on an FOB basis out of the Mo. River market, with trading done as high as 39 cents lb today.

Well covered positions, Gulf values that would net back to the lower to mid-30 cents lb range, and strong spot lard supplies are keeping a lid on the FOB market.

Yellow grease did move higher today out of the Illinois and Missouri River markets, driven by strong biodiesel and feed demand. The wide spread to CWG prices also helped to attract demand.
