Reviewing the RIN dashboard ahead of the March EMTS release. The most recent Energy Information Administration (EIA) energy outlook and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) RIN production data provides a snapshot of RIN production and how it contrasts between the original 2024 mandate and today.

The original 2024 renewable volume obligation (RVO) called for 21.54 billion RINs of renewable fuel to blended into the US transportation fuel pool. There are four mandated categories of fuel, total renewable fuel, advanced biofuel, biomass-based diesel (BBD), and cellulosic biofuel. There is also an implied mandate for conventional renewable fuel, often referred to as the implied ethanol mandate.
