Animal protein prices steady amid avian flu outbreak

US animal protein prices were steady or up on Wednesday May 1 amid limited reported trade, with multiple market participants attending the Petfood Forum in Kansas City, Missouri, this week. However, significant price pressure was reported on porcine meat and bonemeal for Wednesday.

Fastmarkets price assessment for meat and bone meal, porcine, fob Eastern Iowa/Illinois was $340-420 per short ton, widening downward from $350-420 per short ton on Tuesday April 30. Market sources reported trade as low as $325 per short ton and as high as $440 per short ton, which could not be confirmed in bulk at the time of publication.

Fastmarkets price assessment for meat and bone meal, porcine, fob US Carolinas was $430-450 per short ton, down by 12.87% from $495-515 per short ton on Tuesday. Market sources reported trade as low as $375 per short ton but in limited volumes for the region.
