US animal protein prices flat to lower amid light trading

US animal protein prices were steady to lower on Thursday May 2 amid reportedly limited trading, with multiple market participants traveling to the Petfood Forum in Kansas City, Missouri, this week.

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for poultry by-product meal, pet food, 14 Ash 64 Pro, fob US Mid-South was $775-850 per short ton on Thursday, widening downward from $800-850 per ton on Wednesday May 1.

Market sources said that poultry by-product pet-grade products remained under downward pressure on Thursday, but most prices were rangebound during the week due to limited trade.

Animal by-product production, stocks
In March, production of feathermeal (FM) and poultry by-product meal (PBPM) fell month on month while meat and bonemeal rose, according to the USDA’s Fats and Oils: Oilseed Crushing, Production, Consumption and Stocks report released on Wednesday.
