Biodiesel imported into the US fell in March for the first time in four months while biodiesel exported from the US reached a three-month high.

Import demand from US fuel blenders fell to an eight-month low while export demand for US biodiesel increased for the second straight month, according to data released Thursday May 2 by the US Census Bureau.

Biodiesel imports to the US totaled 35.1 million gallons in March, 35% below 54.5 million gallons imported in February and 21% under the 44.2 million gallons imported the year before. Monthly import volume reached its lowest level since July 2023, but was 36% above the five-year import average for March of 25.7 million gallons.

Biodiesel was imported from six countries during March, unchanged from February, with Canada, Italy, and Spain accounting for 71% of imports and Belgium, South Korea and Germany providing the balance.
