Animal proteins steady after holiday; hog slaughter forecast in line with 2023 for start of June

US animal protein prices were mostly steady on Tuesday May 28, with only slight price range adjustments on feathermeal for the Mid-South, Alabama/Georgia, and Delmarva regions.

Limited trade volume was reported following the extended Memorial Day weekend and tornadoes in a number of states, which affected transportation over the weekend and into the business week.

Soybean meal prices were lower on the Chicago Board of Trade at close on Tuesday, down by $9.10 per short ton in the July contract.

Market sources said the drop in soybean meal was due to the release of the export inspections report from Federal Grain Inspection Service on Tuesday. The soybean export inspections were reported at 212,105 tonnes for the week to Thursday May 23, down by 17.35% from the corresponding week in 2023.
