International animal proteins remain rangebound

International animal proteins were steady for the week to Thursday May 30; the only price adjustment was a wider range on meat and bonemeal exports to China.

Fastmarkets assessed meat and bone meal, bovine, export, cfr China at $470-485 per tonne for the week to May 30, a slightly wider range from the previous price of $470-480 per tonne for the week to May 23.

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) reported cattle slaughter at 139,285 for the week to Friday May 24. This is 1,085 head higher from the week prior and up from the same week in 2023 by 22,751 head.

Year-to-date slaughter for Australia was at 2.50 million head, 15.38% or 333,281 head higher than 2023 levels for the same time. The 2024 year-to-date slaughter is up 28.05% compared with the three-year average.
