International animal proteins prices were steady for the week to Thursday June 6.

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) reported cattle slaughter at 142,162 head for the week to Friday May 31. This is 2,877 head higher from the week prior and up from the same week in 2023 by 18,157 head.

Year-to-date slaughter for Australia was at 2.65 million head, 15.80% or 361,978 head higher than 2023 levels for the same time. The 2024 year-to-date slaughter is up 28.88% compared with the three-year average.
