Three cars of renderer grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded up to 51 cents per lb Chicago on Tuesday June 18.

The high temperatures and humidity levels across much of the tallow producing regions in the US will drive free fatty acid prices higher this week and limit the amount of in-spec supply, according to Fastmarkets research team, further tightening a market that is already tight due to slower cattle slaughter.

The packer BFT and technical tallow markets were quiet, but a source said that the combination of higher renderer prices and limited supply, “should drive prices higher in the short term.”

Choice white grease traded in a range of 42-44.5 cents per lb FOB Missouri River on Tuesday.
