Stable biodiesel production leaves supply, prices unchanged in crude glycerin market

Glycerin prices held steady on Monday June 24, with producers and traders reporting little change to begin the week.

Crude glycerin traders were quoting the market in the range of $0.06-0.08 per lb. Some of the higher-priced ranges from last week narrowed downward this week, indicating that the market may be comfortable where it currently is.

Kosher crude glycerin traders were quoting prices at a 3-5 cent per lb premium over the crude glycerin market. There were some top-end indications above the range, indicating the market to be a bit more volatile than the crude market.

Some kosher crude glycerin offers were heard as high as $0.16 per lb, but most reported trades were in the range of $0.11-0.14 per lb.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported biodiesel blending data on Thursday June 20. May domestic biodiesel RIN generation was 5.8% above April, indicating a somewhat surprisingly strong market.
