International animal proteins bulletin, June 27, 2024

International animal proteins prices were steady in the week to Thursday June 27.

Port delays in Vietnam were at the forefront of concerns for some participants in the international market, with one market source saying, “there is increased scrutiny from port officials on documents and labelling requirements; any slight discrepancies are being pulled up and taking considerable time to work through.”

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) reported cattle slaughter in the country at 142,390 for the week to June 21, up by 12,921 head week on week and by 18,437 head year on year.

Year-to-date slaughter in Australia was at 3.06 million head, up by 15.7% or 415,894 head from the same period in 2023 and up by 29.34% compared with the three-year average.

Fishmeal prices for Chile and Peru remained unpublished due to outdated values and a lack of reported trades for the week to Thursday.
