US packer BFT weekly average price hits 33-week high

Distiller’s corn oil (DCO) traded higher out of the US Missouri River market for August on Friday June 28 in what was otherwise a quiet day.

Most buyers and sellers wrapped up their trading earlier in the week and are focusing on logistics ahead of next week’s July 4 holiday, and it’s likely that trading will remain quiet until the second week of July.

The Chicago packer-grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) market was quiet in the week to Friday, but the weekly price average was up by 5.2% on trading done late in the week ended June 21. The weekly average was the highest since the week ended November 10, 2023.

Nearby availability for renderer and packer BFT remained tight on well-sold positions and the effect of high temperatures across much of the tallow-producing regions, which drove free fatty acid levels above the max 4% threshold.
