Premium tallow grades trade higher in US ahead of holiday break

Eight railcars of edible tallow traded at 58 cents per lb Chicago basis late on Friday June 28, and five cars of technical tallow traded at 54.5 cents per lb Chicago basis on Monday July 1.

Outside of the Chicago tallow market, trading was quiet on Monday, with many in the US focused on logistics ahead of the holiday break on Thursday July 4.

Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts hog slaughter at 1.975 million head for the week to July 6, up by 1.1% week on week and down by 18.4% from the prior week’s USDA estimate.
