Feathermeal more in line with traditional soybean meal relativity following price drops

Market values on US animal proteins were generally flat on Wednesday July 10, with market sources indicating a stagnant day.

Rail embargoes lingering from flooding and lower values on soybean meal tend to push the market lower, according to market sources, but higher soybean meal basis levels and tighter inventories from lower slaughter levels have kept pricing from dropping.

Fastmarkets assessed poultry by-product meal, pet food, fob US Midwest at $600-650 per short ton on Wednesday, down from $625-675 per short ton a day earlier.

US broiler slaughter
Fastmarkets research forecasts broiler slaughter at 166.246 million head in the week to Saturday July 13, 1.25% lower than the same period in 2023.

Over the next six weeks, broiler slaughter is expected to average 163.201 million head per week, down by 2.71% year on year, according to Fastmarkets research.
