Price pressure on Missouri River porcine meat and bonemeal; May US dog and cat food exports lower

US animal proteins prices were generally steady on Thursday July 11, but pressure was indicated on porcine meat and bonemeal for the Missouri River region, mostly due to lower soybean meal prices.

Fastmarkets assessed meat and bone meal, porcine, fob Missouri River at $325-430 per short ton on Thursday July 11, lower from Wednesday July 10’s values of $340-405 per short ton. Trade values as high as $430 per short ton were reported, but could not be confirmed as of press time.

Market sources have said that pressure in the animal proteins market is due to lower Chicago Mercantile Exchange soybean meal values for the past few weeks. But with a +70 to +75 SMQ soybean meal basis reported in some central US regions, the flat $400+ price on spot soybean meal has kept some flat for the day and week.
