US fat exports higher for May shipments

Trading out of the Australian and New Zealand markets was flat for the week to Thursday July 11, with no changes reported.

Tallow demand from the US remains strong, and vessels loading for shipment to the US Gulf and West Coast markets were reported.

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) estimated national cattle slaughter for Australia at 140,079 head, down from the week prior but still well above 2022 and 2023 levels.

Sources have reported that winter slowdowns at abattoirs in New Zealand and Australia are starting to slow tallow production in both markets.

Fat prices in the EU market were mostly unchanged on limited buying/selling interest. Used cooking oil (UCO) did trade higher DDP Western Europe, but UCO delivered to Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam (ARA) was reported lower for the week to July 11.
