US domestic biodiesel blending reaches 10-month high in July: EPA

Domestic biodiesel blending in the United States reached a 10-month high in July, according to supply data released on August 15 by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

One blender interviewed by Fastmarkets expressed no surprise, citing underperformance by mega renewable diesel (RD) producers at the Rodeo and Martinez facilities in California as a reason allowing domestic producers to run strong.

Domestic biodiesel blending, along with rising domestic renewable diesel blending, lifted mandated Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) blending for the D4 biomass-based diesel (BBD) category to 107% of its annual target.

The D4 mandate is the first to reach its goal. Additional production is expected from the category due to the EPA’s forecast that other mandated fuels will fall short of their blending requirements.
