US animal fats and oil price movements mixed as SBO recovery slows

The US animal fats and oils markets had mixed price movements on Tuesday August 27. Sources described the market as somewhat “unpredictable,” with limited trading and varying perspectives among participants.

The choice white grease market continued to inch lower, with prices for the Missouri River market assessed at 43-44 cents per lb on Tuesday.

In Chicago, the bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) markets were stable, with both the packer- and renderer-grade markets particularly quiet this week.

But tallow prices delivered into the Gulf were assessed in a slightly higher range on Tuesday at 45.5-46 cents per lb, based on indications received at those levels for September and October buying.
