Negative tone continues in EU fats market

Prices for animal fats continued to move in a downtrend in the week to Thursday September 5, losing around €20-40 per tonne week on week depending on quality and location, pressured mostly by the lack of buying interest from biofuel producers, while buyers from the feed, pet food and oleochemical industries still showed consistent interest.

Sources reported several trades during the week, including Category 1 fats with max 20% free fatty acids (FFA) around €670 ($741) per tonne FCA Northwest Europe (NWE) for spot delivery, while demand for Category 2 fats with delivery in the fourth quarter was heard in the low €700s per tonne.

Deals for Category 3 fats were reported at €940-950 per tonne DDP NWE for max 2% FFA edible fat cargoes, while sources priced 15% FFA fats at €790-835 per tonne DDP NWE and 5% FFA at €880-940 per tonne DDP.
