Domestic US renewable diesel blending falls to 9-month low in August

US domestic renewable diesel (RD) blending in August was the lowest since November 2023, according to data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released on Thursday September 19. Domestic RD blending totaled 209.8 million gallons in August, down by 28% from July’s record high of 292.5 million gallons.

RD capacity has expanded noticeably since 2021, rising from 815 million annual gallons to approximately 4.8 billion in 2024. This has allowed RD capacity to surpass biodiesel capacity for the first time in 2023.
