Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Prices in the international animal proteins market were mixed in the week to Thursday October 2.
Fastmarkets assessed the price of meat and bonemeal, 50 Pro, delivered Australia, at A$550-610 ($379-420) per tonne on Thursday, up from A$515-590 per tonne on September 26. Values as high as A$620 per tonne were reported but could not be confirmed at the time of publication.
Meat & Livestock Australia reported cattle slaughter at 139,775 head in the week to September 27, down week on week by 437 head but up by 9,711 head year on year.
Year-to-date slaughter in Australia was almost at 5.02 million head, up by 653,190 head, or 14.96%, from the corresponding period in 2023, and up by 30.54% compared with the three-year average.
