Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Corn
US corn sales for 2024/25 were reported at 1.68 million tonnes in the week to September 26, up noticeably from the previous week and landing above the USDA’s expected range of 600,000-1 million tonnes, US Department of Agriculture data showed on Thursday October 3.
Much of the increase came from Mexico (540,800 tonnes), Colombia (339,100 tonnes), Japan (244,000 tonnes), Spain (141,500 tonnes) and Guatemala (121,200 tonnes).
These gains were partly offset by reductions for unknown destinations (55,900 tonnes). The USDA groups undisclosed destinations under the umbrella term “unknown.”
The accumulated export commitments reached 147.1% of the USDA forecast.
Exports of 1.17 million tonnes were primarily to Mexico (392,900 tonnes), Colombia (331,900 tonnes), Japan (254,000 tonnes), Spain (71,500 tonnes) and Panama (44,800 tonnes).
