Biodiesel bid/offer spread widens amid increasing uncertainty

Biodiesel prices widened in the week to Wednesday October 9 with offers as high as $4.42 for B100 and as low as HO minus $0.41(at the time of the quote), which is the approximate equivalent to B100 at $3.90.

A fuel blender indicated trades are not taking place at the high end of the price range, but the higher prices are indicative of market participants concerns heading into the first quarter.

The market is slowing, one producer said, adding that “it feels like everyone is sold out for the fourth quarter with no progress being made on first-quarter pricing,”

The confusion for first-quarter pricing centers on the expiring blenders’ tax credit (BTC) transitioning to the 45z clean fuel production credit (CFPC) on January 1, 2025.
