Lackluster trade volume keeps US animal protein prices steady

The US animal proteins market was quiet on Wednesday October 9 with lackluster trade volumes, sources told Fastmarkets.

“Almost everyone is still assessing positions post-strike [at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports] and how to catch up on exports versus domestic sales,” one industry source said.

US broiler slaughter
Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts broiler slaughter at 169.886 million head in the week to Saturday October 12, up by 2.17% from the corresponding week in 2023.

Over the next six weeks, broiler slaughter is expected to average 168.988 million head per week, up by 0.27% year on year, according to Fastmarkets’ research team.
