East Coast bids strengthen as buyers source domestic organic corn

As harvest progresses in the U.S., merchandisers tell Fastmarkets that bids are strengthening in East Coast markets like Pennsylvania. Reports of $330 per short ton – $9.25 per bushel – on old crop corn is enough to make regional operators wonder what is going on with organic imports.

Market participants have speculated that striking dockworkers may have contributed to disrupting trade flows, but Fastmarkets cannot confirm this.  Another theory is that the USDA’s Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) is beginning to gain traction.

Rumours of a large load of organic corn at a major East Coast port is under investigation have been communicated, but Fastmarkets cannot…
