Choice white grease (CWG) prices were stable in the Missouri River market on Tuesday. However, sources have indicated that the market is softening in line with seasonal demand trends, with trades reported as low as 42 cents per lb throughout the day.
Since 2019, Missouri River CWG prices have increased just once from September to October.
In 2021, the monthly average was up by 1.69 cents per lb relative to September; however, the September monthly average price was down by 12.59 cents per lb relative to August that year, a record month-to-month drop.
Prices have historically declined in October as colder temperatures limit the use of CWG in biodiesel, feed buyers push for lower prices due to increased supply and cheaper cash corn and oleochemical buyers start to slow their purchasing heading into the year’s end.
