Diamond Green Diesel announces SAF unit startup

Diamond Green Diesel’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) unit has been completed and is in the process of starting up, the company announced during Valero Energy’s earnings call on Thursday October 24.

Diamond Green Diesel is a joint venture renewable diesel and SAF production company owned by Valero Energy and Darling Ingredients. The company’s SAF unit is located at its renewable diesel facility in Port Arthur, Texas.

“The project was completed on schedule and under budget,” Lane Riggs, Valero’s chief executive officer, said in the call.

Senior vice president Eric Fisher said during the call that the SAF market will be physically undersupplied over the next five years because of European mandates.
