US kosher crude glycerin prices edge higher on stronger demand

Kosher crude glycerin prices in the US are currently underpinned by an integrated company in the agricultural supply chain and food processing sectors, several sources told Fastmarkets.

The company stepped up bids for kosher crude glycerin in the week to Friday November 1 and continued to be active in the market on Monday November 4, sources said.

“Demand has been crazy, product [supply] is short, and we are receiving inquiries from Europe, which wasn’t happening before,” a kosher crude glycerin seller told Fastmarkets.

This producer is outside the Midwest and near the export ports; their proximity to the ports and distance from the Midwest allows them to capture a little extra freight premium that is lost to Midwest producers. This producer is currently pricing kosher crude at 20+ cents per lb.

Other kosher crude glycerin producers within the Midwest reported trade primarily in the range of 17-18 cents per lb.
