Animal protein prices in Australia, New Zealand rise on stronger dollar, active demand

Prices in the international animal proteins market were mixed in the week to Thursday November 14.

Animal protein prices in Australia went up in the week to Thursday on active demand and expectations of lower slaughter moving into the Christmas season, when slaughter levels typically drop, one source told Fastmarkets.

Decreased soybean meal prices are weighing on the animal proteins market, but lower slaughter expectations have propped up both domestic and export prices in the near term.

Fastmarkets assessed the price of bloodmeal, 80 pro, Australia at A$1,175-1,215 ($787-814) per tonne on Thursday, up from A$1,150-1,200 per tonne on November 7.
