EIA reduces US biomass-based diesel consumption forecast for 2024, 2025

The US Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) released on Wednesday November 13, reduced its 2024 and 2025 forecasts for the consumption biomass-based diesel (BBD). The forecast was lowered despite the outlook for US diesel and gasoline consumption increasing.

The EIA currently expects US BBD consumption to average 359,000 barrels per day in 2024 and 345,000 bpd in 2025.These estimates were down from 360,000 bpd and 347,000 bpd in the October STEO.

The agency expects biodiesel consumption to average 121,000 bpd in 2024 and dropping to 102,000 bpd in 2025. The 2024 estimate was lowered from the October STEO forecast of 122,000 bpd, but the 2025 estimate was raised from the October outlook of 98,000 bpd.
