Packer BFT, CWG trade higher; hog slaughter down week on week

Prices for packer-grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) moved higher on Monday November 25, in an otherwise quiet trade day ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Five cars of packer BFT traded at 44 cents per lb, up by 1.5 cents on the day Chicago basis.

In the same region, railcars of choice white grease (CWG) also traded slightly higher on Monday at 41 cents per lb Chicago basis.
Outside of those trades, market activity was limited with most prices talked stable.

In other news, Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts hog slaughter at 2.3 million head for the week ending November 30, a decrease of 10.33% week on week and 14.4% year on year.

For December, hog production is expected to remain below 2023 levels, with weekly slaughter rates projected to average 2.413 million head — down by 3.94% year on year and by 7.49% from the prior six-week average.
