US biodiesel imports tumble; RD imports continue to set record highs in Q3

Data released by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Friday November 29 showed that the country’s biodiesel import volumes declined significantly during the third quarter of 2024, while renewable diesel (RD) imports rose to record levels.

US biodiesel imports began the year strongly, with a record 143 million gallons received during the first quarter. The pace continued with 128 million gallons received during the second quarter but trailed off sharply in the third quarter with only 74 million gallons received.

Third-quarter biodiesel imports were down by 43% compared with the preceding three months, and 41% below those in the third quarter of 2023.
