Renewable diesel shipments to US East Coast increase in 2024

Although the bulk of US renewable diesel (RD) flows are consumed on the West Coast, monthly interregional shipping data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed that smaller volumes have been consistently shipped to the East Coast in the last year.

In each of the last five months for which the EIA has historical data (May–September 2024), consumption of renewable diesel on the East Coast has ranged from 5,000 barrels per day to 7,000 b/d, the EIA said on Friday December 6.

Because no renewable diesel is produced in the East, suppliers and local governments are procuring their supply from a combination of imports and interregional US shipments, the agency said.

More than half of the RD supplied to the East Coast in 2024 was from imports from Neste’s plants in Singapore, Finland and the Netherlands.
