US spot glycerin prices hold strong amid light trading, tight stocks

Glycerin prices in the US were relatively stable in the week to Monday December 9.

Market sources continued to report sluggish trading, with buyers and sellers sitting on the sidelines as supplies remain tight.

“We do not have much incoming raw glycerin from biodiesel plants, so we do not have much processed glycerin to sell out,” a market source told Fastmarkets.

Refined glycerin prices have been steady in the mid-$0.40s per lb, while the overall glycerin market has been stumbling around offers for the first quarter of 2025 over the past several weeks.

A trader indicated that most of their refined glycerin contracts for 2025 are locked in at or above $0.50 per lb.

“The biodiesel slowdown supported better prices for a good part of 2025 volumes. Let’s see how far into the first half of 2025 it can also support spot prices,” the trader said.
