December cattle on feed down on month, year

Most US animal protein prices were rangebound for the week, though in wider ranges due to the impending Christmas and New Year’s holiday closures.

The only significant price moves were for ruminant and porcine meat and bonemeal (MBM), which were under significant price pressure due to a combination of lower soybean meal values, reformulations on poultry feed excluding MBM and export worries over a possible International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) port strike in mid-January.

A low of $175 per short ton was reported on ruminant mixed species meat and bonemeal, Missouri River for the week, decreasing the weekly average to $241 per ton, down by 5.9% week on week.

Missouri porcine meat and bonemeal averaged $317.50 per ton for the week, down $9.50 per ton from the previous weekly average
