US animal protein prices were steady to lower on Friday December 27. Some participants reported distressed loads in the market late in the afternoon of Thursday December 26 and on Friday.

Meat and bonemeal yearly recap
Prices for ruminant and porcine meat and bonemeal (MBM) in 2024 moved in tighter ranges than in 2023 amid heightened unease due to economic uncertainty, leading several participants to hold prices unchanged during traditional price-swing months.

In 2024, the weekly high-low spread for ruminant meat and bonemeal, Missouri River averaged $53.50 per short ton. The average price range was substantially lower year on year at $235-288.50 per ton, compared with $241.25-453 per ton in 2023, and the average spread was also tighter than last year’s $211.75 per ton.
