Modi government keen to rebuild Indian organic export markets

Organic markets in India were valued at $2.5 billion for the 2023/24 marketing year, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) in New Delhi.  Domestic demand – which grew rapidly after pandemic lockdowns – is the bright spot for Indian organic sector.

The Indian government developed technology platform Jaivikkheti to connect consumers with organic growers. There are well over a half million growers registered on the platform. 

The Indian government also established the National Cooperative Organics Ltd (NCOL), which currently promotes the Bharat Organics brand in India, with initial campaigns focused on pulses, rice, and sugar, with dozens more commodities added since.
