US weekly ethanol production drops; stocks reach 7-month high

US weekly average ethanol production fell to 1.102 million barrels per day in the week to Friday January 3, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) report released on Wednesday January 8. This marked a decrease of 9,000 bpd from the previous week, but it was up by 3.8% year on year.

Ethanol stocks hit a seven-month high of 24.148 million barrels, up by 509,000 barrels week on week, but down by 0.9% year on year.

Demand for corn decreased by 0.8% from the previous week, but it was up by 3.8% year on year. Approximately 16.326 million bushels of corn per day were used for ethanol production.

Livestock feed production totaled 117,846 tonnes in the week to Friday. Distillers’ dried grain (DDG) production accounted for 104,809 tonnes, with the remaining amount consisting of 11,000 tonnes of corn gluten feed and 2,037 tonnes of corn gluten meal.
