Glycerin prices unchanged; buyers, sellers cautious about market trend

80% crude glycerin prices are being quoted in the $0.17-0.20 per pound range this week. Kosher crude glycerin prices were holding near $0.25 per pound, while refined glycerin prices were unchanged in the mid-to-upper $0.40s per pound range. Buyers and sellers of glycerin were cautious ahead of 45Z credit decisions.

A vertically integrated biodiesel producer told Fastmarkets that “while most stand-alone biodiesel producers have taken downtime to begin the year, we are running to support [soybean] crush operations. However, I am waiting on additional fuel program information before offering out glycerin.”

A second producer noted the market remains choppy saying that “most buyers are on the sidelines and hesitant to contract for an extended period. Buyers are mostly purchasing in small volumes on an as-needed basis.”
