On Wednesday January 15, the US Department of Energy (DOE) released the long-awaited update to the Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) model, now called 45ZCF-GREET.
Using the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) or the updated GREET model — which shows extensive changes over the previous version and is still being assessed by Fastmarkets — biofuel producers can now determine their feedstock emissions rate under the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit (CFPC). The value of the credit is based on a fuel’s lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions rate.
In general, many new options have been added for fuels, feedstocks and production pathways.
