Runner market commentary
...
Prices for exported Brazilian tallow rose by $20 per tonne in the week to Thursday January 23, as stronger demand from US importers led suppliers to prefer export sales over the domestic market.
The price for Brazilian tallow max 15% FFA, FOB Santos was assessed at $1,020-1,040 per tonne on Thursday.
A deal on a CIF Santos basis — which can be regarded as exporters’ origination costs — was reported at 6.20 Reais ($1.03) per kg with no taxes. This equates to about $1,070 per tonne on an FOB export basis. The deal involved a minimum volume of 10,000 tonnes.
“Buyers looking to purchase tallow in the domestic market at prices below export levels can’t find it, as exports have pressured up the market,” a tallow producer told Fastmarkets.
Higher demand for Brazilian tallow followed the latest guidance on the Clean Fuel Production Credit (CPFC), also known as 45Z, announced by the US government a week earlier.
