Renderer BFT trades higher to close out the week

Renderer grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded up to 50 cents per lb Chicago on Friday January 24 in a five-car trade.

Prices into the Gulf were higher as well, with deals heard at 50 cents per lb delivered for max 20% free fatty acid (FFA) tallow.

Both buyers and sellers continued to report that spot supplies for animal fats are tight, with one market participant saying, ā€œIā€™m sold out on some lower-volume production.ā€

In the week to Friday, the animal fats complex was broadly higher, supported by surging heating oil and soybean oil futures through the first three weeks of January, as well as stronger D4 RIN prices.

Choice white grease FOB Missouri River had the biggest week-on-week jump, up by 11.7% from the prior weekā€™s average.
