Blue Biofuels to buy Florida land for new biofuel production plant

US producer Blue Biofuels will purchase more than 35 acres of land in the US state of Florida to build a new production plant initially intended to produce 3 million gallons per year of biofuels, according to a news release published on Tuesday February 4.

The land acquisition will be a big step in the company’s efforts toward the commercialization of the plant, Blue Biofuels chief executive officer Ben Slager said.

Construction of the facility was expected to begin some time in 2025, with the Florida-based company citing the potential for a future expansion to 100 million gallons per year of cellulosic ethanol and 100 million gallons per year of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Due to its proximity to the Port of Tampa, the facility will have access not only to a wide variety of biomass feedstocks but to efficient rail and truck distribution lines for the biofuel produced at the plant.
