Stronger US demand support higher Brazilian tallow prices

The price reference for exported Brazilian tallow increased in the week to Thursday February 6 amid stronger demand from US buyers, sources told Fastmarkets. Meanwhile, the domestic market edged up despite weak local demand, mainly supported by exports.

Fastmarkets assessed the price for Brazilian tallow max 15% free fatty acids (FFA), FOB Santos at $1,030-1,050 per tonne on Thursday, up by $10 per tonne week on week.

Some US buyers were willing to pay around $1,025 per tonne for FOB Santos tallow, while most Brazilian exporters kept their offers at $1,030-1,050 per tonne, sources said.

FOB Santos tallow remained competitive compared with US domestic prices. Fastmarkets assessed the price for tallow, max 20% FFA, delivered US Gulf at 52 cents per lb ($1,180 per tonne) on Wednesday February 5.

According to sources, Brazilian tallow exporters were still negotiating, as batch formation was under way for future shipments.
