US animal fats prices increase on strong demand, rising RINs

After a slow open to the week, activity in the US animal fats and oils markets picked up on Tuesday February 11, as sources continued to report strong support across fats markets.

Prices for renderer-grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) continued their upward trajectory, with ten railcars trading higher before the close of trading at 54.5 cents per lb, Chicago basis. Meanwhile, bids for technical tallow also moved higher to 53.5-54.0 cents per lb, though no trades were confirmed before the close.

Sources attributed the strength in fats markets, particularly for tallow, to steady demand and steady-to-rising prices in adjacent markets such as soybean oil (SBO) and corn.

Additionally, improved weather conditions over the past couple of weeks have helped stabilize production across all grades, following holiday disruptions and earlier weather-related slowdowns.
