Central Illinois soybean meal prices drop to 4-year low

In the week to Friday February 14, the soybean crush margin in Central Illinois decreased by 1% week on week and by 17% year on year, according to the USDA’s National Weekly Grain Co-Products Report released on Tuesday February 18.

In the week to Friday, soybean meal prices hit a four-year low of $296.45 per short ton, down by 4.5% week on week from $310.50 per ton and by 20% year on year.

Soybean prices decreased to $10.32 per bushel, down by 1.9% week on week from $10.52 per bu and by 13% from a year earlier.

Soybean oil prices increased to 45.25 cents per lb, up by 2% week on week from 44.40 cents per lb, but down by 4% year on year.

The decline in soybean and soybean meal prices led to a crush margin of $1.91 per bu, down by 17 cents per bu compared with the six-week average of $2.08 per bu.
