US grain futures drop amid supply expectations, tariff uncertainty

Most grain prices on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange fell on Friday February 28.

The March soybean futures contract decreased by 11.25 cents per bushel to settle at $10.11 per bu, while March soybean meal rose by $0.80 per short ton to $291.70 per ton.

Meanwhile, March wheat fell by 9.75 cents per bu to close at $5.37 per bu, and March corn dropped by 11.25 cents per bu to $4.53 per bu.

Grain futures faced downward pressure amid expectations of increased supply for corn, soybeans and wheat, driving prices lower. Market concerns were further fueled by weaker economic data and uncertainty over President Trump’s next tariff actions, with 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico expected next week.

Distillers’ dried grain prices declined in the Iowa market this week, while prices in Minnesota/Dakotas and Illinois increased. Market participants reported slow exports and minimal activity happening overall.
