February biomass-based diesel imports fall on reduced renewable diesel import demand – EIA

According to the Energy Information Agency (EIA), the United States imported 29.95 million gallons of biomass-based diesel (D4) during February. Imports of D4 were down 24 percent from January but 25 percent over the volume imported in February of 2019. Cumulative D4 imported gallons are 16 percent above 2019 volume two months into the year.  Biodiesel and renewable diesel import volume was down from January but the highest total for February since 2017.

February biodiesel imports were down 10 percent from January but 13 percent over the volume received during Feb of 2019.  Biodiesel imports came from Canada, Germany, and South Korea.  Canada was the leading exporter, providing 7.7 million gallons or 60.9 percent of the volume, while Germany shipped 2.9 million gallons, or 22.5 percent of the total.
