Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Ethanol production increased 28,000 barrels per day to a 41 million-barrel-per-day average during the week ending October 23, 2020. Ethanol and DDGS volumes bounded higher, matching their highest levels in the past 13 week period. Ethanol production was 3.1 percent above last week’s report but 6.3 percent under levels at this time last year. DDGS output increased by 2,663 metric tons per day but was 5,992 MT below production from a year ago.
Gasoline supply increased 3.1 percent but was 13 percent below 2019 levels for the same period. Ethanol stocks fell to 19.6 million barrels, reaching their lowest level since December 30, 2016. There were 1.8 million gallons of sugarcane ethanol imported to the West Coast during the week ending October 23. Increased ethanol output raised corn demand 415 thousand bushels per day.
