Organic Chicken Slaughter Rises and Recovers COVID Short-fall

Ahead of Tuesday’s general election, Non-GMO soybeans are stable pricing at a premium of $1.40 over the local cash price. Merchandisers are telling The Jacobsen that exporters are waiting to see the results and how it will impact the greenback. Additionally, non-GMO soybean meal prices are also unchanged hovering near the 120 per short ton premium level over conventional. For 2020, it appears that approximately 5-million acres of non-GMO soybeans have been planted, with approximately 52% being used as food-grade beans and 48% as feed grade non-GMO soybeans.

Organic Chicken Slaughter By Weight Rises

Organic chicken slaughter by weight has rebounded during the last 5-months to recover all the losses it had experienced during the beginning of the spread of the pandemic. Recall, during April and the first 2-weeks of May, several slaughterhouses were closed, which significantly reduced organic chicken slaughter. Since mid-May, organic chicken slaughter has played “catch up football” and has not equaled the slaughter experienced in 2019. Organic turkey slaughter remains “on fire”. The number of organic turkeys that were slaughtered in the week ending October 24, reached the highest level on record according to the AMS. Organic turkey slaughter increased by 37% week over week and is up more than 200% year over year for the 43 weeks of 2020.
